For the purpose of these awards:

Early Career Researcher is defined as a researcher who is less than 5 years post PhD or other post graduate qualification (Full time equivalent – excludes career interruptions eg carer’s responsibilities, medical condition, parental leave).

Mid-Career Researcher is a researcher who is less than 10 years post PhD or post graduate qualification (Full time equivalent – excludes career interruptions eg carer’s responsibilities, medical condition, parental leave) and has not reached professorial level.

These awards recognise outstanding contributions to the field of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and/or alcohol use and pregnancy, acknowledging career stage. This may be based on contribution to knowledge and/or translation of research as indicated by:

  • Number of publications/presentations in this field
  • Number of grants on which the researcher is an investigator
  • Contribution to government inquiries, reviews
  • Advocacy
  • Membership and active contribution to scientific committees, advisory/steering groups, professional bodies or organisations
  • Mentorship, training or teaching activities, peer review
  • Translation of research into clinical practice, policy, advocacy
