Changes in alcohol consumption during pregnancy and over the transition towards parenthood

As the socio-economic variation in the impact of childbirth and returning to drinking postnatally is understudied, the objective of this study was to examine pre- to postnatal changes in drinking for women and men and assess the role of education level in these changes.

As many children affected by FASD exhibit neurocognitive delays that contribute to secondary consequences, effective resources for educators are crucial to ensure these students are supported in their ongoing learning and development. This systematic review of qualitative studies involving pregnant and recently postpartum women, seeks to understand the barriers and facilitators that influence alcohol use in pregnancy. This will help support women’s health and wellness and prevent FASD.

Effective approaches to prevention, diagnosis and support for FASD

In September 2019, an inquiry was referred to the Senate Community Affairs References Committee into effective approaches to prevention and diagnosis of FASD and strategies for optimising life outcomes for people living with FASD. The final outcomes of the senate inquiry were released in March 2021.

Navigating complexity to support justice-involved youth with FASD and other neurodevelopmental disabilities: needs and challenges of a regional workforce

The aim of this research is to determine the unmet workforce development needs of a regional workforce providing care and support to youth involved with the justice system. Interviews were conducted to understand the support provided to youth, existence and uptake of referral pathways, and unmet needs.
