Professor Elizabeth Elliott awarded a prestigious NHMRC Investigator Grant for 2024-28

Congratulations to our Chair of the FASD Hub Advisory Group Professor Elizabeth Elliott, who was awarded research leadership funding to the amount of $2.9 million in December 2023, for further research of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: improving knowledge, diagnosis and health outcomes.

 

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Grants provide the highest-performing researchers with funding towards world-class research projects which allow flexibility to pursue important new research directions, form collaborations, and foster innovative and creative research in the areas of biomedical, clinical, public health and health services.

Professor Elizabeth Elliott received a Level 3 Leadership Grant which will be used to address priorities identified in the 2018-28 National FASD Strategic Action Plan and the 2020 FASD Senate Inquiry, including the FASD Hub Australia and FASD Register.

The translational research program will improve knowledge, diagnosis and outcomes of FASD and inform service planning and prevention. It will build on existing research networks and infrastructure and increase capacity of early to mid-career researchers. 

Work will include investigation of the epidemiology, outcomes and burden of FASD, including in remote communities, juvenile justice and out-of-home care, the evaluation of diagnostic approaches and effective treatments to improve life outcomes, and development of resources for health and education professionals.
