Estimating the prevalence of fetal alcohol syndrome in Victoria using routinely collected administrative data

This study aimed to establish how common (i.e prevalence) of fetal alcohol syndrome is in the state of Victoria. The authors reported the prevalence  ranged from 0.01 to 0.03 per 1,000 live births, however there needs to be improved reporting of alcohol use in pregnancy and a system in place to report cases diagnosed for more accurate estimates to be made.
