This study aimed to assess the value of extending notification to the Western Australian birth defects register beyond the age of one. It was reported that two thirds of children diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), and one quarter of those with congenital hearing loss were diagnosed beyond 1 year of age.
